Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childish days; that can recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth; that can transport the sailor and the traveller, thousands of miles away, back to his own fire-side and his quiet home! ~ Charles Dickens
To all who celebrate, a very Merry Christmas to you!
I spent the first day of spring gallivanting around the desert in search of wildflowers (we're in the midst of a "superbloom" here in Southern California due to the surprisingly-wet winter we've had), and put nearly 300 miles on my car in the process.
I thought, naively, that if I arrived in the desert early enough (I left my house at 5:30 a.m. which, if you know me, is pretty much unheard of regardless of the photo op), I’d be able to avoid the crowds. As it turns out, I greatly underestimated my fellow petal peepers and, faced almost immediately upon my arrival with traffic and lines, took off in search of some peace and quiet at the largely-abandoned Salton Sea.
All that being said, I did manage a few impressionistic wildflower shots before abandoning my quest. This one's my favorite.
